VIRTUAL CONFERENCE
15th International Conference on Metadata and Semantics Research
29th November - 3rd December 2021
What is euroCRIS?
euroCRIS http://www.eurocris.org/ is a not-for-profit association with offices in The Hague, The Netherlands, that brings together experts on research information in general and research information systems (CRIS) in particular. The organisation has 200+ members, mainly coming from Europe, but also from some countries outside of Europe.
The main activities of euroCRIS are:
- The development and curation of the international standard data model for research information called CERIF: the Common European Research Information Format.
- The promotion of cooperation and exchange of expertise between stakeholders in the research information domain, more notably by getting into
Strategic Partnership with other international organisations active in the research information domain and by organising International Conferences (biennial) and Membership Meetings (biannual).
euroCRIS is steered by a Board, consisting of a President, Secretary, Executives for Communication, Events, External Relations and Projects and Task Group Leaders for each of the six task groups of euroCRIS: CERIF, Architecture and Development, Best Practice/DRIS, CRIS-IR, Indicators and Linked Open Data. The task groups focus on the development of optimal policies, definition of use cases as well as technical solutions concerning the aspects mentioned and they consist of experts from within the membership of euroCRIS. The Task Groups are the heart of the organisation where most of the work is done. The number of task groups is not fixed, but may be changed in accordance with developments taking place within the research information domain.
euroCRIS exists because information is required for a broad variety of stakeholders: researchers, research managers and administrators, research councils, research funders, entrepreneurs and technology transfer organisations, and for the media an the public.
Following a period of activities and meetings in an informal setting, which started in 1991, euroCRIS became a professional not-for-profit association of CRIS experts with legal status in 2002. This was a logical development since the European Commission handed over the custodianship of CERIF to euroCRIS and euroCRIS wished to become an authoritative interlocutor for national and European authorities and a serious partner in research projects and networks in this field.
The mission of euroCRIS is derived from this ambition. Areas of interest not only cover research databases and maintenance of CERIF, but explicitly also CRIS related data like scientific datasets, (open access) institutional repositories, as well as data access and exchange mechanisms, standards and guidelines and best practice for CRIS.
Since its formal establishment euroCRIS has developed into an active and vibrant organisation, in which members from various backgrounds are working together on advanced systems to support the ideal CRIS environment.
